The company employs over 2.000 professional engineers, consultants and scientists who are committed to delivering outstanding projects focused on class-leading innovation in our core product areas of engine, transmission, vehicle, hybrid and electrical systems, environmental forecasting and impact analysis.

Our activities cover a range of market sectors including passenger car, commercial vehicle, rail, defence, motorsport, motorcycle, off-highway, marine, clean energy and power generation and government. Our client list includes the world’s major transportation original equipment manufacturers, supply chain organisations, energy companies, financial institutions and government agencies.

Ricardo has offices around the world. The head office and Engine engineering technical centre is in Shoreham-by-Sea in southern England. Driveline and Transmissions plus Vehicle engineering expertise resides in the middle of England. Hybrids and Electronic Systems and our Environmental consulting are based in Cambridge and near to Oxford, respectively. Other facilities are based around Stuttgart in Germany, the USA and China, for example.

Roads2HyCom – studying aspects of the role of fuel cells and hydrogen in a sustainable energy economy. HiCEPS – reasearching into lower cost diesel-hybrid technologies. EAGAR – mapping the competitiveness of European automotive research against international benchmarks. CO2RE – developing low fuel consumption truck engines. SARTRE – demonstrating mixed fleet vehicle platooning. LESCCV – simulating engine combustion. SALVE – looking at hybrid vehicle safety. SmartBATT – investigating new energy storage systems. FOSTER – communicating future research requirements.

Ricardo is also active in projects supported by the UK and German governments.
