Ongoing Projects

EARPA directly supports or initiates new networks, projects and consortia by bringing interested parties together and facilitating meetings. However, EARPA is not directly carrying out or managing projects, its members do.

This section gives an overview of some EU-funded projects in which EARPA members are involved. This list is far from being exhaustive as EARPA members are involved in a very large number of RTD projects.

Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM)

  • The EU-funded VERA project will develop, optimise and demonstrate innovative tailpipe retrofit solutions to address particle and NOx emissions, particularly considering NH3 emissions.

  • The SYNERGIES project envisions a future where Cooperative, Connected, and Automated Mobility (CCAM) systems seamlessly integrate into everyday life, ensuring safer, more efficient, and sustainable transportation across Europe.

  • The SUNRISE project is about safety assurance of Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) systems. This safety assurance is crucial for their successful adoption and deployment in society.

  • The SELFY project develops a toolbox made up of collaborative solutions with the objective to improve the resilience of the Cooperative Connected Automated Mobility sector.

  • NextETRUCK provides a sustainable solution to bring zero-emission electric medium freight haulage, playing a pioneering role in the decarbonisation of vehicle fleets and accelerating sustainable market replenishment.

  • LENS is a three-year Horizon Europe project assisting enforcement authorities, cities, and regulators to decrease the contribution of L-category vehicles (LVs: mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles and quadri-mobiles) to noise and air pollution.

  • aims to develop a new family of highly energy efficient, cost-effective, modular, compact and integrated wide bandgap (WBG) power electronics solutions for the next generation of battery electric vehicles (BEVs)

  • HELENA proposes a disruptive technology to design batteries with an optimized performance at high currents and stable cycling that will allow the adoption of these batteries in electric vehicles and, especially, in airplanes.

  • The greenSPEED project provides solutions for new sustainable electrode and cell manufacturing processes with reduced energy consumption, lower carbon footprint and ZERO emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

  • Diversify-CCAM is a European funded project committed to making mobility fair and accessible across Europe by integrating cultural, geographical, and policy factors into the design of innovative CCAM (Cooperative, Connected, and Automated Mobility) solutions

  • AutoMoTIF will focus on the development of strategies, business and governance models, regulatory recommendations and synergies that will enable the integration and interoperability of automated transport systems and solutions in the intra-European network.

  • Project Development of advanced next-generation solid-state batteries for electromobility applications

  • 3beLiEVe aims to strengthen the position of the European battery and automotive industry in the future xEV market by delivering the next generation of battery cells, designed and made in Europe, for the electrified vehicles market of 2025 and beyond.

2Zero

  • Taking Zero-Emission Long-Haul Freight Transport in Europe to the next level. Demonstrating zero emission, flexible vehicle platforms with modular powertrains serving the long-haul freight ecosystem.

  • Develop optimal smart charging technologies and related charging and control strategies to enable the use of millions of EVs in different environments (and maximise drivers’ satisfaction, energy system efficiency, increase renewable energy use, minimise grid reinforcements and energy exchange needs).

  • The ambition of NEMOSHIP is to develop, test, demonstrate new innovative technologies, methodologies and guidelines to better optimise large electric battery power technology within hybrid and fully electrical ships.

  • LeMesurier aims to establish a common framework for monitoring and generating values for various Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to the three-layer approach for the Objectives of 2ZERO, assessing the results of partnership projects in the road transport sector

  • HEFT is a Horizon Europe project dealing with designing and manufacturing motors for electric vehicles equipped with re-used and recycled permanent magnets

  • GEN1200 will develop and prototype the next generation of highly-integrated 1200V vehicle powertrains based on modular and scalable 1700V SiC power electronics with multiple use of components.

  • In line with the European 2050 goals ESCALATE aims to demonstrate high-efficiency zHDV powertrains (up to 10% increase) for long-haul applications that will provide a range of 800 km without refueling/recharging and cover at least 500 km average daily operation (6+ months) in real conditions.

Batt4EU/BEPA

  • Versaprint is a 3-year Horizon project that brings innovation to batteries in the transport sector, improving their safety, manufacturability, sustainability, performance, and lifetime. Its main goal is to boost the circular economy and the cost-effectiveness of the battery value chain.

  • THOR has five key impacts: industrial (cost reduction), scientific (improved understanding of battery mechanisms and materials), economic (increased business opportunities), and societal (motivation for younger generations to study electrochemistry and take part in battery R&D), regulatory (acceptance of virtual tests as part of the certification process).

  • REINFORCE aims at creating a circular value chain for batteries, which promises to transform the life cycle of these products.

  • NEXTCELL’s overarching goal is to provide a new Li-Ion cell generation for both high capacity and high voltage applications by developing and validating a ground-breaking gellified cell concept, integrating several innovations at the material level for each of the main cell components: the gellification of the electrodes and the separator in combination with a high voltage-stable gel electrolyte will allow the development of the full gel cell concept.

  • NEXTBAT aims to develop the safest, most sustainable battery system by considering electrical, thermal, and mechanical safety. This effort includes digitalizing production, reducing the carbon footprint through recyclability, and enhancing performance with advanced battery management.

  • NEMO is a project funded by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) to address this issue and demonstrate optimized battery management.

  • Project Manufacturing and assembly of modular and reusable Electric Vehicle battery for environment-friendly and lightweight mobility

  • The FULL-MAP project aims to revolutionize battery innovation by developing a materials acceleration platform that amplifies human capabilities and expedites the discovery of new materials and interfaces.

  • FASTER addresses the challenges associated with the protection of first responders in hazardous environments, while at the same time enhancing their capabilities in terms of situational awareness and communication.

  • Reducing emissions and pollution in all aspects of daily life is high on the EU’s agenda. Road transport is also complying with strict emissions regulations, paving the way with electric vehicles (EVs), internal combustion engines and hybrids eco-powertrains.

  • AM4BAT Project is a European project that is working on the development of anode-free all-solid-state batteries made by 3D Printing.

Made in Europe Partnership

  • Flexible Remanufacturing Using AI and Advanced Robotics for Circular Value Chains in EU Industry

  • The RecAL project (short for Recycling technologies for circular Aluminium), takes a comprehensive approach to harnessing this valuable secondary resource.

  • RE4DY mission is to demonstrate how European industry can jointly build unique data-driven manufacturing and supply network active resilience strategies and yet sustain competitive advantages through digital continuity and sovereign data spaces.

  • The PROSPECTS 5.0 projects aims to promote the adoption of Industry 5.0 principles, such as human-centricity, sustainability, and resiliency, and facilitate the transition to Industry 5.0 for SMEs, start-ups, and scale-upsin various industries.

  • Unlock the power of PLIADES, a cutting-edge AI-driven framework designed to optimise full data lifecycles and seamlessly integrate data spaces across multiple sectors. From mobility and healthcare to manufacturing and energy, PLIADES boosts efficiency and interoperability, driving innovation and growth.

  • PISTIS delivers a holistic framework and a reference platform composed of federated deployments for releasing the full potential of the data economy, by renovating the way data is managed, shared and monetised, bringing into the picture best-of-breed methods and solutions from diverse domains

  • NimbleAI expects to deliver major performance and efficiency gains compared to the state-of-practice: CPU/GPUs processing frame-based video. The project will also deliver new enabling functionalities and practical implementations to unlock more advanced AI and computer vision algorithms and applications.

  • MetaFacturing focuses on a digitized toolchain for metal part production which will lead to a more resilient production process with respect to the raw materials used, reduces operator effort and cost, and reduces scrap due to out-of-specification parts.

  • MAGnets in rEsiLient suppLy chAiNs - Kickstarting a European value chain for Permanent Magnets recycling & manufacturing

  • MaDiTraCe’s main goal is to enlarge and integrate the portfolio of technological solutions reinforcing the reliability of critical raw material (CRM) tracking and the transparency of complex supply chains.

  • ‘MADE-3D’ (Multi-Material Design using 3D Printing) – is a project funded by European Union's ‘Horizon Europe 2022’ programme.

  • JARVIS is an EU-funded project committed to advancing human-robot collaboration in a user-centric manner.

  • GAP_NOISE will develop a strong community of scientists and engineers capable of boosting the acoustic integration of autonomous vehicles in future urban areas by considering the needs of vulnerable road users and passengers.

  • EARASHI is a European network made of existing local ecosystems to reach a large number of third parties and maximize the number of new innovative AI & Robotics at work solutions

  • The DISCO2030 project aims to develop two innovative hybrid manufacturing methods for joining dissimilar metal-metal and metal-polymer materials.
